Ms. Bircan Ünver, Founder-President & Head
NGO Rep. to the United Nations Department of Public Information
The Light Millennium, A Charitabe, Multi-Media & Culture Organization &
Executive Producer & Director of The Light Millennium Television/LMTV.

Bircan is a Turkish native, Originator (1999) and Founding President of The Light Millennium (LM, 2001), which is a public benefit, global multi-media and culture organization, and  is the  permanent representative of the organization to the  UN DPI  since 2006. As an advocate for “freedom of expression” and “public benefit media,” she has compiled and e-published over 57 e-issues and produced, directed, edited and promoted near to 150 original television programs, garnering several awards.

She is also the founder of the ISIKBINYILI.ORG based in Istanbul, Turkey (January 2010), as a sister organization to the LM. Bircan holds a Master’s Degree in Media Studies of the New School University (NYC). Her thesis project was a half-hour video documentary titled ALL IDEAS: Freedom of Expression in Turkey (1999).

Prior to that, Bircan graduated from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University with a B.A. degree(1988), and worked as a freelance art journalist to numerous newspapers and art magazines from 1984 to 1989 in Istanbul, Turkey. Bircan is author of three books: En Kutsalı Yaratmak (1995, in print, To Create is Most Sacred); Sanatın Labirentlerinde (2015, in print, The Labyrinths of Arts), and Işık Yollarında (poetry, 2017, in print, The Ways of the Light)

On behalf of The Light Millennium,  Bircan developed concepts, organized/co-organized, presented/co-presented, hosted/co-hosted near to 70 open-to-public events in collaboration with various universities, institutions, non-governmental and civil society organizations. Also led several special event/workshops and two exhibits during the UN.DPI/NGO Conference in 2006, 2007, 2014 and 2016.

AND,  THE ORGANIZATION
The Light Millennium & 
The Light Millennium Television – LMTV; was  built on the first article of the United States Bill of Rights: Freedom of Speech, in conjunction with the Universal Human Rights Article #19, on Freedom of  Expression. It invites citizens of the world to submit, in an appropriate artistic medium, ideas and experiences that will help foster better understanding  between people of different cultures and beliefs.

The organization frequently presents and promotes ideas about UNNGO Briefings, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Millennium–Sustainable Development Goals, Cultural Diversity, UN-Women, UN Visions, and human interest at large through its multi-media platforms such as multiple websites, social media and Community Access Stations both on QPTV and MNN as well as through public events.

LMTV Series was launched by Bircan at Queens Public Television on January 13, 2000, then as a monthly series. In 2011, LMTV presented several Special programs along with its monthly series through Queens Public Television (QPTV.Org) channels. And, starting the first week of January 2012,  LMTV Series has moved up to a weekly series as twice a week on Channel#56, Time Warner, RCN Queens#84 and Verizon Fios#36 (on Mondays 11:30a.m. and Fridays 10:00p.m.) Weekly in 2013, later on moved back to both Monthly Series and Specials in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
In 2018,  LMTV Presents “Special” programs both in English and Turkish in Queens through Charter/Spectrum, RCN & Fios cable channels.

Also, starting the first week of July 2012, LMTV has expanded its Weekly series to Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MMN.Org) on to Channel#2 LifeStyle on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Later to changed it to bi-weekly.

The  Light Millennium has obtained 501-c-3 status effective on July 17, 2001, and associated  itself with the United Nations Department of Public Information effective on  December 12, 2005.  http://www.lightmillennium.org
